What are gel nail extensions?

Gel is a synthetic polymer with a porous structure, which is used to build up and strengthen the nail plate. This innovative material allows the master not only to lengthen the free edge of the nail, but also to give it the desired shape, as well as thicken too thin natural nails. Gel makes nails look natural, strong and beautiful, making it a popular choice in the world of manicure and nail care.

.

Advantages of the gel

✅ Odourless;
✅ Does not cause skin irritation or allergies;
✅ Easy to work with (practically does not peel off and does not require heavy filing);
✅ Allows moisture, air and light to pass through (nails breathe and are safely protected from all kinds of fungi);
✅ Good adhesion;
✅ Multifunctional (it can be used for moulding and French manicure).

Classification of nail extension gels

1. Single-phase

When a single-phase nail extension gel is used, it means that the gel contains all three layers, i.e. only one can is used. Single-phase nail extension gel consists of three gels: base, sculpting (modelling) and protective layer (finish).

The single-phase nail extension system is more economical than the three-phase system. It requires the purchase of only one active ingredient. The procedure consists in the application of a universal gel, which contains substances that replace the three phases of the build-up. This makes the procedure much less costly and time-consuming.

2. Biphasic

When two-phase gel nail extensions are used, it is understood that the gel contains 2 layers: a base layer and a sculpting (modelling) layer.

3. Three-phase

When using three-phase gel extensions, it is assumed that the gel contains only one layer: the sculpting (modelling) layer.

How to properly prepare the nail plate for gel extension

Gels are not harmful to the client's health. However, an unskilled master can cause damage by incorrect actions:

✓ When preparing a natural nail for extension to remove the lipid layer or shine, files with abrasiveness of 180-240 or more grit are used. Grit is a unit of measurement for the number of fine particles of the file. For example, 180 grit means that 180 particles are applied to 1 square centimetre of surface. The higher the grit, the finer the particles and the higher the number of particles, which means that the file is softer to use and removes a smaller layer of the nail.

✓ Natural nails consist of an average of 125 layers of keratin plates. There are no nerve endings or blood vessels, which means that the nail plate is hardened (dead) keratin cells.

✓ To prepare for the build-up you should use files from 180 grit and higher. In this case, only 2-3 layers of keratin plates are removed - that is, after proper treatment of the nail, the difference is not noticeable. If you use files for artificial materials (80, 100, 150 grit) when processing natural nails, you can remove up to 70 layers of the nail plate. As a result, the nails become too thin and painful. When pressing, they turn red, as the nail bed is saturated with blood capillaries that deliver oxygen-rich blood to it. So, the wrong choice of nail file in preparation for modelling, and as a consequence, resawing natural nails can be one of the reasons for the emergence of talk about the harm of nail extensions.

As you can see, it is only the master's fault.
